Dr
Mayilvahanan Natarajan is a pioneer of Orthopedic Oncology in the country
and has introduced the concept of Limb Salvage Surgery by Custom Mega
Prosthesis. His personal series of over 1000 surgeries of Custom Mega
Prosthesis is the highest number by a single surgeon in the world. He has
established Orthopedic Oncology as a sub-specialty in Orthopedic Surgery
in India

He has
invented several types of Custom Mega Prosthesis and has several patents
to his credit. He has authored 7 books and has contributed various
chapters in many books. He
has published widely in National journals and has 19 papers in peer
reviewed International Journals. He was the first Indian to be elected as
President of Asia Pacific Musculoskeletal
Tumor Society (2000-02). He is currently the President
of the Indian Orthopedic
Association (2005-06).
